M. hearth was a member of the Caldwell Commission of Enquiry. He was one of the minority, made such by the casting vote of its Chairman.
He was the writer of a letter to Messrs, appended to mine of the 30th July 1858, to the Acting Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong; - a copy of which ought to have been forwarded to you by his Excellency John Bowring, with his communication of my suspension, by the Mail of 10th August last.
His address may be learned at the offices of the Peninsular Oriental Company; on whose steamer he has arrived in Europe.
